Why is my guinea pig still scared of me?

I have 2 male guinea pigs. Each about 1 1/2 years old. I got them a whole year ago. They still run from me when I get close to them. Reggie, the slightly bigger one, is most scared. Saige, the smaller one, is a little less scared of me. They won't let me pet them. When I offer them veggies, they snatch it out of my hand and run away hoping I don't touch them. Also, is it normal if they sleep with their eyes open? Because, on Youtube, I see videos of guinea pigs sleeping with their eyes closed.
