What are some promising theories for using a wormhole for transportation?

i was doing research on faster than light travel just to see how close the human civilization is to interstellar travel and i realized that maybe faster than light travel isn't the key, but the production and controlling of wormholes would be. if we could produce a wormhole and control where it went we could travel anywhere right? so what are some promising theories?
